History

Toray Engineering was established in 1960 as a subsidiary of Toray Industries, Inc. (then named “Toyo Rayon Co., Ltd.”), with the purpose of providing Toray with equipment and maintenance work. Since then we have engaged in plant construction and manufactured production equipment such as textile machinery both inside Japan and abroad.
We currently have four overseas sites and eight subsidiaries inside Japan. We are a unique engineering company capable of machinery and equipment development and monozukuri. We are active in a growing range of areas, including not only textiles and plastics, but pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, FPDs, and composite materials as well.

1960 Aug. Toyo Construction Co., Ltd. founded as a wholly owned subsidiary of Toray Industries, Inc.
1962 Nov. Renamed Toray Engineering Co., Ltd.
1966 Oct. Plant engineers from Toray Industries, Inc. were introduced to strengthen company organization, triggering development into a comprehensive engineering firm.
1969 July Full-scale entry into the housing business.
Dec. Entered field of high-rise warehouse and distribution systems.
1970 Oct. Entered field of environmental control systems.
Nov. Entered field of radioactive waste treatment and other nuclear power related systems.
Dec. Large scale exports of plants began.
1975 Dec. Entered field of environmental impact assessment.
1977 Sept. Entered field of fluidized-bed systems.
1978 Apr. Entered field of sewage treatment facilities.
1980 Oct. Increased capital to \1.5 billion.
Oct. Largely entered field of RO plants.
Apr. Toray Industries, Inc.’s electronic device business division (electronic printers, measurement devices, fluidic devices) transferred and integrated. Construction and housing business division transferred to Toray Construction Co., Ltd.
1984 Jan. Centralized management of Toray Industries, Inc.'s’s conservation work.
1985 Aug. Completed Seta Factory as manufacturing base for FA systems.
1987 Apr. Entered field of CIM systems.
Nov. Started marketing of film slitters and winders.
1990 Apr. Completely transferred Toray’s maintenance business to Toray Industries, Inc.
Oct. Remodeled Seta Factory and completed Technology and Development Center to integrate manufacturing and R&D bases for electronic machinery, precision machinery and FA systems.
Dec. Established TEK (Singapore) Pte Ltd., a local plant construction company in Singapore.
1991 Apr. Transferred ownership of personnel seconded from Toray Industries, Inc. to Toray Engineering Co., Ltd.
1993 Jan. Completed Numazu Factory as a manufacturing base (in eastern Japan) for FA systems.
Nov. Established Shanghai Office in China.
1995 May Established Beijing Zhong Li Chemical Fiber Machinery Co., Ltd. in China.
July Established TEK (America) Inc., a local company in America.
1996 Mar. Established TEK (Korea) Co., Ltd.(now Toray Engineering (Korea) Co., Ltd), a local company in Korea.
1998 July Completed Kansai Technical Center to consolidate engineers in the Shiga area.
2001 Aug. Completed new facility (Packaging Technology Center) at Seta factory.
2002 Apr. TMT Machinery Inc. jointly funded by Murata Machinery, Ltd., Teijin Seiki Co., Ltd. and Toray Engineering.
Apr. Merged with Toray Industries’ Printer Division.
Sept. Head office location shifted with the completion of Nakanoshima Mitsui Building.
Nov. Established Shanghai TEK Technology & Consulting Co., Ltd.(now Toray Engineering (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.), a local company in Shanghai, China.
2003 Apr. Transferred Textile Machinery Business Division to TMT Machinery Inc.
2004 Apr. Established TSCoater Division as business of Toray Slit-nozzle Coater expanded.
July Transferred water disposal (environmental) business to Suido Kiko Co., Ltd.
Nov. Merged with Toray Industries’ CAE Soft Division.
2005 Sept. Moved Head office from Osaka to Tokyo.
2007 June Completed Electronics Research & Development Center in Seta Factory.
2009 Jan. Full-scale entry into the field of battery manufacturing systems.
2010 Apr. Transferred Construction Div. functions to domestic subsidiaries.
Oct. Ceremony celebrating the 50th anniversary of our company'’s founding
2013 Apr. Transferred Printer business to TDS Co., Ltd.(now Toray Engineering D Solutions Co., Ltd.)
Dec. Founded Kitakyushu TEK & FP LLC and HKK & TEK LLC to establish a photovoltaic power generation business.
2015 July Established the Taiwan Branch.
Aug. Moved head office from Nihonbashi to Yaesu.
Oct. Opened Yokohama Satellite Laboratory.
2017 June NGR Inc., became a subsidiary.
2019 Dec. Consolidated semiconductor inspection eguipment business into TASMIT,Inc.
2020 Apr. Factory management & production management system business, measurement & analysis equipment business, and molding simulation system business transferred to Toray Engineering D Solutions.
