Since our establishment in 1960, we have received an outstanding reputation and trust from our domestic and overseas customers by providing optimal technologies and services to meet their diverse needs in a wide variety of business fields while working on the construction of manufacturing facilities of Toray Industries. We were deeply gratified that the high value and confidence placed in our products by our customers allowed Toray Engineering last year to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

This year our company has inaugurated its latest 5-year management plan. This is our blueprint for turning the Toray Engineering family of companies into a high-earning industrial group as it faces the challenges of the near future. The basic concept is distilled in our two-part slogan: "Double E&E's".

The first part of the slogan – the first "E&E" – emphasizes the fact that Toray Engineering offers customer solutions in Engineering and in Electronics.

On the Engineering side, we construct polymerization and chemical plants for fibers, resins, pharmaceuticals and electronic/IT-related materials. We provide industrial equipment and systems such as deposition equipment for various plastic films, coaters, slitters, and automation. Toray Engineering also provides solutions in a diverse range of industries, including 3D CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) software for injection molding.

When it comes to our Electronics business (the second "E" here), Toray Engineering has created a broad line of world-class products, often taking the lead in market share, as many are either unique solutions offered only by Toray Engineering, or are the best solutions currently on the market. Among the many products offered which have been highly rated by customers around the world are Toray Slit Nozzle Coater (a resist coating system for LCDs), which boasts a world top class market share, fine patterning systems, high-speed/high-accuracy bonders for LCDs and semiconductors, ID title marking systems, inspection equipment, industrial print engines and systems, and measuring and control equipment.

This first "E&E" in our dual slogan explains our business fundamentals. By focusing on these core competencies, we strive to satisfy our customers' product and technology needs, and we leverage our resources here in Japan and around the world to assist them both when they compete in their domestic market, and when they move out into the global marketplace.

Now, on to the second "E&E". These stand for the Environment and Energy. Well aware of the looming challenge of global warming, our company stands ready to make its contribution in the critical areas of protecting the environment, and securing the energy we need to live in it. Our current main energy strategy is the production and marketing of manufacturing equipment for solar cells and lithium-ion secondary batteries, which will assist in the spread of next-generation green energy solutions.

And to give our customers a deeper understanding, even before they begin the factory design process, of the kinds of systems and facilities needed to answer their own battery manufacturing challenges, Toray Engineering runs, at our Numazu plant, a fully operational lithium-ion battery manufacturing demonstration line. Furthermore, to achieve the goals of our comprehensive three-part energy motto of "Electricity Generation, Electricity Storage, Electricity Saving" – we offer low-carbon footprint and energy-saving plant designs and production equipment for solar cell-related manufacturing.
