Toray Engineering Acquires Semiconductor Inspection System Manufacturer

Toray Engineering Co., Ltd. (Location: Chuo Ward, Tokyo; President and Chief Executive Officer: Susumu Ota; hereafter "Toray Engineering"), announces the creation of a new subsidiary from June 1 through the acquisition of shares in NGR Inc., (Location: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Chief Executive Officer: Hideyuki Sakaizawa; hereafter "NGR"), a manufacturer of semiconductor inspection systems.
Since its inception in July 2000, NGR has engaged in the development of semiconductor inspection systems using proprietary electron beam technology. As use of existing production processes to manufacture cutting-edge semiconductor devices of ever shrinking dimensions and greater complexity has made yield ratio management problematic, a need for new semiconductor inspection systems has grown. The world's cutting-edge semiconductor manufacturers are now turning to NGR in recognition of its inspection technologies.
Seeing the future potential of NGR's technologies and products, Toray Engineering made an investment in NGR in August 2014 to form a strategic partnership, and this new share acquisition will enable a more integrated business expansion going forward. Toray Engineering has a full lineup of inspection systems for semiconductor manufacturing processes that enjoy a solid reputation for reliability, operability and cost performance on production lines. This acquisition will merge the company's accumulated experience in the field with NGR's cutting-edge technologies to accelerate business expansion in the field of semiconductor inspection systems.
On April 1, 2017, Toray Engineering launched a new medium-term management plan for the four years through fiscal 2020. The focus of this plan is to provide optimal solutions through E&M Innovation (engineering and monozukuri), while the four priority fields for the Toray Engineering Group under the plan are IoT, Life Innovation (LI), composite materials and inspections. Going forward, this new acquisition will enable Toray Engineering to provide semiconductor inspection solutions to meet the tremendous increase in demand expected in an IoT society.
