Toray Engineering Co., Ltd.

Introduction of Electricity Using Virtually 100% Renewable Energy at Headquarters and Second Headquarters

Toray Engineering Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO & COO: Takashi Iwade; hereinafter “Toray Engineering”) has started purchasing FIT non-fossil fuel energy certificates with tracking* through the renewable energy value trading market for the amount of electricity used at its headquarters and second headquarters (Otsu, Shiga).

Starting in fiscal year 2022, Toray Engineering will introduce electricity using virtually 100% renewable energy at its headquarters and second headquarters, aiming to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions from electricity use (approximately 360 tons of CO2/year).

In the Toray Group Sustainability Vision formulated in 2018, the Toray Group declared that one of the worlds it aims to achieve by 2050 is “a net zero emissions world, where greenhouse gas emissions are completely offset by absorption.” Toray Engineering also aims to contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality in society as a whole through its business, while aiming to achieve carbon neutrality for itself.

Toray Engineering will continue to steadily contribute to the realization of carbon neutrality in society as a whole by promoting the expansion of renewable energy use in addition to both energy and electricity conservation efforts in its business activities.

* FIT non-fossil fuel energy certificates are certificates that represent the “non-fossil fuel energy value” of electricity generated without the use of fossil fuels such as oil and coal, which are traded under the Feed-in Tariff Scheme for Renewable Energy (FIT).
Furthermore, the addition of tracking information that reveals the power source type, power plant location, and other attribute information related to the origin of the FIT non-fossil fuel energy certificate is being promoted to expand the trading of environmental value. This is a requirement to be recognized as renewable energy by the RE100 international initiative.
