TRENGD to Launch Sales of the World’s First*1 Fisheries-Dedicated Water Quality Meter, MIAURA™, Contributing to Improved Shipment Rates of Farmed Fish
March 12, 2026
Toray Engineering D Solutions Co., Ltd.
Toray Engineering D Solutions Co., Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Ichiro Fukui; hereinafter "TRENGD") has developed the fisheries-dedicated water quality meter MIAURA™ and will begin sales in March 2026.
MIAURA™ measures total organic carbon (TOC) levels in aquaculture tanks and tubs, enabling early detection of conditions that can cause disease and death in fish and helping to prevent deterioration of aquaculture environments and declines in fish survival rates. It is the world’s first water quality meter for TOC dedicated to aquaculture and breeding applications.
TRENGD will expand MIAURA™ for aquaculture operators as well as for breeding applications such as aquariums, aiming to achieve sales of 200 million yen in FY2026 and 500 million yen in FY2030.
The survival rate of farmed fish under aquaculture conditions varies by species. In tuna, which is known to have a particularly high mortality rate, approximately 70 percent die before reaching adulthood. Improving aquaculture efficiency has therefore become a key issue in order to make more effective use of marine resources.
Although the relationship between the amount of organic matter in tanks and water quality deterioration has long been pointed out empirically by people engaged in aquaculture and breeding as an indicator of environmental degradation, there had previously been no research or studies supporting this view, and it had not been scientifically demonstrated.
Research results announced by Kindai University in March 2025*2 scientifically demonstrated the relationship between fish mortality and TOC.
In response to these findings, TRENGD developed MIAURA™ by adding functions that improve usability, convenience, and maintainability in aquaculture and breeding environments to the TOC-210 series water quality analyzer, which measures TOC contained in industrial wastewater.
MIAURA™ enables continuous monitoring 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, allowing early detection of changes in aquaculture and breeding environments that could lead to fish mortality and ensuring timely environmental improvements. In addition, TRENGD is developing a water quality monitoring solution that analyzes water flow within tanks using its fluid analysis technology. By combining these technologies, TRENGD aims to contribute to improved survival rates in aquaculture and breeding settings and to the more effective use of marine resources.
TRENGD contributes to solving challenges at production sites, logistics operations, and other workplaces by combining three Ds: device, design, and digital.
Under TRENG, the brand for the solutions business developed by the Toray Engineering Group, TRENGD will continue advancing the world through measurement technology.
