Basic Policy on Development

For over 60 years since its founding, Toray Engineering has achieved sustained growth while adapting to societal changes and technical innovations. The Toray Engineering Group has allocated approximately 5% of its consolidated employees to development roles, operating as a highly specialized team of engineers. Through this structure, we are able to fully leverage our strengths as an engineering firm, creating a strong foundation for addressing a wide range of technical fields.

Our corporate mission is to anticipate changes in society and the market and create value for customers by combining technology and knowledge. To achieve this mission, we are committed to identifying development themes that originate from social issues, while deepening our core technologies and acquiring new technologies through collaboration both internally and externally. Through these initiatives, we continuously strengthen the technologies, intellectual property, and human resources that support our commercialization efforts, thereby contributing to the realization of a sustainable society.

  We contribute to reducing environmental impact by developing equipment for next-generation batteries and carbon fiber composite materials.
• Life Innovation
  We support advancements in medical technology through the development of an ion channel drug discovery support system and the provision of support for the manufacturing of surgical assist robots.
• Digital Innovation
  We contribute to enhanced device performance and energy efficiency through the development of cutting-edge technologies, including semiconductor wafer inspection equipment and laser transfer technology for advanced semiconductor packages. We also achieve high-speed, high-accuracy inspection and assembly through AI-based automatic detection technologies.

By integrating technologies cultivated across a wide range of fields, including mechatronics, plant engineering, semiconductors, and life sciences, we provide solutions tailored to specific customer challenges. In addition, through open innovation, we actively incorporate cutting-edge knowledge from outside the company to promote rapid development.

In particular, for the development of core AI technologies, we have established a company-wide, integrated framework encompassing our group of companies. This framework enables the horizontal deployment of technologies and accelerates development, thereby strengthening our competitiveness through AI. We develop core AI technologies in three key areas—image analysis, mechatronics control, and process data utilization—and apply them across our entire portfolio of products and services to achieve significant improvements in production efficiency and quality.

Furthermore, in terms of intellectual property, we proactively file patent applications related to digital innovation to ensure our global competitiveness in semiconductor- and AI-related technologies.
